Recently attended a conference where I saw some incredibly innovative products and talented people.
I’ve really enjoyed the creative talent I’ve discovered through twitter.
Here we are in an economic downturn with lots of teeth gnashing about American’s losing their ingenuity and innovative spirit – the old “go where other men fear to go” thing.
The truth is we are blessed with enormous amounts of talented people, ideas, and solutions to problems.
Great ideas do not rise to the top for two reasons.
1. The advantages of today’s new ideas aren’t so obvious. When Les Paul introduced the electric guitar, all he had to do is strum it once and you got the idea. Today’s innovations tend to be different on a more complex, sophisticated level. So it takes a motivated customer who wants to be educated to sell them.
2. Today’s media isn’t designed to find the motivated customer and educate.
